don’t recall

i don’t remember you at all
you were in the moonlight
don’t remember you at all
just a face in the firelight
forgot you were there
in the dusk and the twilight
or whether you flickered
in the flames of the candlelight

violins play in my head
to fill the empty space with a lilt and a jig
if you weren’t so small, i’d remember you big
but the music swells as I dance in the light
and you’re just a memory black like the night.
